Your phone versus your partner

We recently commissioned research* which reveals that in some ways we seem to need our handsets more than our partners. Can that be right? Have a look at these three questions and you might be surprised at the answers you’d give.

1. Which would you miss most if you had to go without them for a day – your partner or your phone?

What our survey revealed:

  • 28% of people would miss their partner more
  • 58% would miss their phone more
  • 14% weren’t too bothered about going without either!

2. Which would be harder, spending a weekend without your phone or a weekend without your partner?

What our survey revealed:

  • 57% would miss their partner more
  • 28% would miss their phone more
  • 15% were undecided.

3. When you wake up, which do you do first - talk to your partner or check your phone?

What our survey revealed:

  • 44% always talk to their partner first
  • 53% often or sometimes check their device first
  • 3% were unsure.

Findings from the poll also reveal that:

  • 43% of people take their mobiles to the toilet, while 60% of people take them to bed
  • Phone use has become a habit for nearly half of Brits (47%)
  • Two thirds of people would feel lost, unhappy, stressed or anxious without their handset, but three quarters don’t have any mobile phone insurance.

And that’s the point. Whether we like it or not, mobile phones have become such an important part of our daily lives that maybe we need to think harder about how we’d replace one that got stolen, lost or broken.
