Pay with your Nationwide card using Apple Pay

From today, Nationwide customers will be among the first to be able to enjoy all the benefits of Apple Pay using their credit or debit card.

Apple Pay uses breakthrough contactless payment technology and unique security features built into iPhone 6, Apple Watch, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 – so you can pay for things in an easy and secure way with just your fingerprint.

You can use Apple Pay at any participating online or high street retailer. It’s simple – and unlike other payment methods, there’s no need to carry your wallet around or rummage through it to find the right card. To pay with Apple Pay you simply hold your iPhone 6 near the contactless reader with your finger on Touch ID. On Apple Watch, just double-click the side button and hold the display of your Apple Watch up to the contactless reader. And to pay within apps,* just select Apple Pay as the payment method and place your finger on Touch ID.

*Available on iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Apple Pay is an extremely secure way to pay too, because your card number and identity isn’t shared with the merchant and your actual card numbers aren’t stored on your device or Apple’s servers. All payments require authentication from the account holder with the use of Touch ID or your passcode for each transaction. And each transaction generates a security code, to ensure it’s been requested by an authorised device – making it even safer than entering the 3-digit code from the back of your card each time.

As a Nationwide member, you can register with Apple Pay today. Setting everything up is simple and only takes a few minutes:

  • On iPhone 6, just open Passbook and tap the plus sign.
  • On Apple Watch, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and select “Passbook & Apple Pay”, then tap “Add Credit or Debit Card”.
  • On iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3, just go into Settings, open “Passbook & Apple Pay”, and select “Add Credit or Debit Card”.

From there, follow the onscreen Instruction. For more information on how to use this payment method, check out the Apple Pay support page and Frequently Asked Questions.
