Nationwide has paired up with Y Care International so that you can make a donation to the Nepal Earthquake Emergency Appeal directly in branch. By setting up collection accounts, we are able to receive donations from customers in our branches across the UK.
The funds collected will be sent to Y Care International, who have launched the appeal for the communities devastated by the 7.8 and 7.3 magnitude earthquakes, both of which struck near the capital city of Kathmandu, Nepal.
More than 8 million people have been affected by the earthquakes, many of them in buildings and houses not constructed to withstand such strong quakes. The first earthquake hit on April 25th leaving over 7,800 of people dead with many more injured, and many buildings destroyed and damaged. The second earthquake struck yesterday morning and was as strong as the earthquake which devastated Haiti in 2010.
Adam Leach, Y Care International’s Chief Executive said: "The scale of loss of life, threat to lives and devastation for so many people at risk is awful. We are ready to support Nepal YMCA and others on the ground to provide the life-saving support that is so urgently needed."
Donations can also be made directly through the Y Care International website or by texting ‘NEPA10 £3/£5/£10’ to 70070.
