Ten apps for Christmas

Here we round-up some of the most useful ones to help you get through Christmas as stress-free as possible. The below apps are available from the Windows Store, Google Play™ and App Store- just remember to ask the bill payer's permission first!

Apps to help with the planning

Gift Plan (App Store, £0.69)

This app helps you organise gifts for your friends and family, keeping a tally of how much you’ve spent. You can make notes about a person’s interests and clothing sizes, as well as jot down any gift ideas.

Gift Plan is not just for Christmas either - it can remind you of other special occasions so you never miss another birthday or anniversary.

Christmas Budget Planner (Google Play, free)

This calculator tool helps you plan and manage your Christmas budget, with sections on gifts and cards, parties, decorations and other expenses. You’re able to keep a running total of what you spend before, during and after Christmas so you don’t get any nasty surprises come the new year.

Christmas Presents (Windows, £1.29)

This simple app lets you manage your Christmas gift-buying and helps to make sure you keep within your budget. You can assign a budget to each person and mark presents as purchased and wrapped.

Apps for keeping the children entertained

NORAD Santa tracker (Windows, free)

Want to keep tabs on Santa as he makes his annual journey from the North Pole? This app developed by the North American Aerospace Defence Command allows your children to track his progress, with live updates on his location. It also offers stories, festive music and a new game every day.

Super Mega Worm vs Santa Saga (App Store £0.69, Google Play £0.60)

The success of the Super Mega Worm games has inspired this fun festive spin-off, which sees Wojira the Mega Worm going head-to-head with Santa Claus. There are 15 levels in each of the two games and two game modes.

Christmas Colouring Book (Google Play, free)

Little ones can have fun colouring in their favourite festive characters. There are loads of templates, painting tools and colours to choose from that allow your child to be as creative as they like.

Apps to help with Christmas shopping

PriceSpy (App Store, Google Play, Windows, free)

To help you find the best bargains, this shopping price comparison app lets you search for a particular product and create lists of items to monitor their prices. It also features a barcode scanner which displays product information, reviews as well as the best web price.

HotUKDeals (App Store, Google Play, Windows, free)

Find the latest deals, voucher codes and freebies from high street and online stores, as submitted by other HotUKDeals users. You can filter by retailer or category and search the database to find voucher codes that users have shared.

Wotwine? (App Store, Google Play, free)

Buying wine as a gift or having a party? Try this app for size. You simply scan the bottle’s barcode to find out if it’s good value for money.

uShop:UK (Google Play, free)

Visiting website after website, or trawling round the shops can be a chore. uShop: UK pulls together some of the UK’s biggest high-street chains, giving you access to their products and online checkouts in one convenient place.
