The Nationwide Cash Card account is our basic current account for customers aged 18 or over. It is most appropriate for customers receiving state benefits or a pension as their main source of income.

To be eligible for a Nationwide Cash Card account you must:

  • be aged 18 or over, and
  • not have an existing current account with Nationwide Building Society.

You're backed by our Digital Banking Promise

If you lose money as a result of fraud through our digital banking services, we'll put the money back in your account immediately. This means that you won't lose a penny if we find that you have been a victim of fraud.

Digital banking services include Internet and Mobile Banking.

If you lose money as a result of fraud through our digital banking services, we'll put the money back in your account immediately, providing that:

  1. You have not given to someone else your memorable data or passnumber that you use to access our online or mobile banking services
  2. You have complied with the security data obligations contained within our online and mobile banking terms and conditions
  3. You have provided the correct payment instructions
  4. You did not authorise the transaction
  5. The fraud has not occurred as a result of you using an account aggregation service that consolidates information from each of your financial accounts into one place such as a single website

What you don't get with a Cash Card account

  • An overdraft; and
  • Cash withdrawals outside the UK

Your eligible deposits with Nationwide Building Society are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit protection scheme. This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: Nationwide Building Society, Cheshire Building Society, Derbyshire Building Society, Dunfermline Building Society and Nationwide UK (Ireland). Any total deposits you hold above the £85,000 limit between these brands are not covered.
