1. The UK Consumer Confidence Index replicates the highly regarded US Consumer Confidence Index which is monitored by the US Federal Reserve and is widely acknowledged as being a key economic indicator.
2. The UK Consumer Confidence Index focuses on consumer’s view of the current and future economic and employment situations along with their views on spending on household and major purchase such as a car or house.
3. The index is published the day before the monthly MPC meeting and includes our prediction about the probability of a base rate change.
4. We publish regional quarterly data looking at how consumers in each UK region feel about the economic & employment situation along with their view on spending on household and major items.
5. The Index includes consumers expectations (expressed as a %) about future house price growth – the impact of recent rate rises are starting to influence consumers views of the rate of house price growth.
