Barnsley BSF
Nationwide underwrites £91m
Barnsley Local Education Partnership (John Laing Investment Limited & Laing O'Rourke Plc) was created to undertake a £270 million investment in the Barnsley Building Schools for the Future programme.
The programme represented the largest capital investment in the borough and is unique in the UK in that it involves the replacement of all of Barnsley's secondary schools with nine new-build Advanced Learning Centres.
The Barnsley programme has been split into threes phases of development. Phase 1 began construction in June 2009 and is expected to be fully operational in September 2011. Phase 2 construction commenced in June 2010 and is expected to be fully operational in September 2012. Phase 3 commenced construction in November 2011 and is also expected to be fully operational in September 2012.
