Our employees continued to go to great lengths to deliver an excellent service, helping the Society to achieve record success over the year.

While many employers state a commitment to their employees, Nationwide goes much further than most. In many cases they offer far more than we are legally required to provide.

To ensure we continue to deliver excellent service to our members, we invested significantly in training and development in our retail network.

We were again recognised externally as a leading employer in our sector and beyond:

• we were awarded ‘Champion organisation’ status by Investors in People (IIP) in recognition of our best practice approach. IIP is the only internationally recognised workplace standard. We are one of only 26 such organisations, and the first within the financial services sector to be given this status
• our employees voted Nationwide one of the UK’s ‘Best Big Companies to Work For’ in the annual Sunday Times survey, in which we appeared in the Top 10 for the third year
