As the UK’s largest building society, Nationwide is a familiar name on the high street. Our presence around the country means we are close to the communities from which we have grown, enabling us to direct support where it is most needed. We invested £3.8 million in the community this year, including a £2 million donation to The Nationwide Foundation, a charity set up and funded by the Society.

Our community strategy aims to tackle disadvantage and reach as wide a section of the community as possible. This year we made a significant extra commitment by pledging to contribute at least 1% of pre-tax profits to community investment each year in the future: an aspiration stated in our last Better Society report. We were delighted when our members voted overwhelmingly in favour of this proposal at our 2007 AGM. This will enable us to enhance our efforts and ensure that our community activity has an even greater impact. Read more about our key programmes including:
