Benchmarking & reporting
Reporting is part of our strategy to help us measure and improve our performance. We benchmark ourselves externally through the Business in the Community framework and our reporting is also informed by the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines.
Business in the Community Corporate Responsibility Index
The Business in the Community CR Index is the leading UK benchmark of responsible business practice. In 2006 we were placed in the silver category in the newly-introduced performance bands of bronze, silver, gold and platinum and are ranked within the top 100 companies with an overall score of 89%, one percentage point short of the gold band. We also achieved two silver rankings for positive contributions to society and environment. Our BITC CR Index score has improved by nearly 10% in the last three years.

Global Reporting Initiative
Our Better Society report is informed by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2002 guidelines. This is a best practice reporting framework for economic, environmental and social performance. We will be reviewing the implications of the most recent guidelines from GRI (G3 guidelines) for our next Better Society report.
