How to apply for a Community Grant

Have you got an innovative idea to tackle housing problems in your local community but need some funding? Here’s how we could help.

What you need to know

Is your project one we’re likely to support? If you think it might be, download the eligibility criteria for the full picture.

What we’ll fund

Projects need to either support existing living conditions, get people directly into an appropriate home, or indirectly contribute to these goals by challenging existing housing models. There are grants of up to £50,000 available.

Who can apply?

We’re inviting charities, social enterprises, not-for-profits and similar organisations to apply – either alone or as part of a joint bid. There are some exclusions, like political or profit-making activities and larger enterprises, but these are explained fully in the the eligibility criteria.

Application deadline

Applications are now open until 3 September for projects in the north of England. Areas include:

  • Northumberland
  • Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside
  • County Durham
  • Cumbria
  • North and East Yorkshire

Shortlists will be announced in early October and successful applicants will be contacted in December.

How to apply

First, be sure your region is taking applications – see above. Next, read through the eligibility criteria in detail, making sure you have all the required supporting documents ready to upload. Once you’re all set, hit Apply now – this will take you to an online application form hosted by UK Community Foundations. They are the national network for all accredited Community Foundations across the UK and are helping us deliver this grant funding programme.

What next?

Once you’ve submitted your application it’ll be assessed, possibly with a phone call or visit from our partner, UK Community Foundations. All suitable projects will then be passed to the regional Community Board. They’ll compile a shortlist of the best projects – then it’s down to members and non-members to vote for which projects get our funding and support.

If you've got a question about our Community Grants, we'd love to hear from you.
