Recommend a Friend - Frequently asked questions

My recommendations

Unfortunately not. Payment is limited to a maximum of £500 per person per tax year (from 6 April to 5 April the following year), not per account.

As long as both friends are transferring from two separate accounts into one joint account, then they both qualify for £100 each (so £200 is paid into the new joint account). However, if one joint account is being transferred to a Nationwide joint account, then only one account switch is taking place, so only one payment of £100 will be made.

If you recommend the other account holder and they switch, you’ll both be paid £100 into your joint account, providing they meet the terms and conditions of the offer.

Yes, you can both earn up to £500 in any tax year (6 April to 5 April the following year) through the Recommend a Friend scheme.

Yes. As long as your friends meet the terms and conditions of the offer, we’ll give them £100.

To earn £100, your recommended friend will have to switch to a FlexDirect, FlexPlus or FlexAccount (all other accounts are excluded).

My friends

You can recommend as many people as you like, but the maximum you can earn is £500 per tax year (from 6 April to 5 April the following year), by recommending five friends.

Yes, anyone who holds their main current account with another provider and wants to switch to a FlexAccount, FlexDirext or FlexPlus account will qualify for the offer. They'll also need to meet the conditions of the offer.

Yes, they can. They’ll need to print out the manual transfer form, fill it in, then send it back to us (the address is on the form).

If your friend switched manually, they won’t have a switch code. Don’t worry, here’s what you need to do:

  • When you’ve completed the form, we’ll send you an email containing a unique link which you'll need to share with your friend.
  • Once your friend has completed the manual switch, tell them to follow the link in the email.
  • Here, they’ll be asked to enter a switch code. Tell them to use the code MSW001. This is how we’ll know they’ve switched manually.

Find out more on our manual transfer process page.

No, we won’t contact your friend as we don’t ask you for any of their details.

When you’ve completed the form, we’ll send you an email containing a unique link which you'll need to share with your friend. The link in the email opens a new page where your friend can add their details.

My rewards

You could both be liable for income tax on any payments received. It's best to check at hmrc.gov.uk.

No, we can only make payments directly into a current or savings account.
