How it works

If you’re a Nationwide member you can earn up to £500 per tax year by recommending five friends. That’s £100 per friend, when they switch to us.

You’re a member when you have a current account, mortgage or savings account with us.

1. Give us a few details

Within 1-2 working days, we’ll then send you an email with a unique link, which you share with your friend.

2. Get your friend to apply

They’ll need to switch their main current account to a Nationwide FlexAccount, FlexPlus or FlexDirect current account within 90 days of your recommendation, and transfer two Direct Debits as part of the switch.

3. You both get £100

Why stop there? Earn up to £500 every tax year by recommending up to five friends.

What you need to know

Before taking the first step to being £100 better off, you’ll need to:

  • Have a current account, mortgage or savings account with us (which makes you a member)
  • Be 18 years of age or over

Yes, you can. If they’re using a non-Nationwide current account for things like Direct Debits or salary payments, but they have a FlexAccount, FlexPlus or FlexDirect current account with us, they need to complete a full Current Account Switch. They'll also need to transfer at least two Direct Debits across as part of the switch to qualify for the offer. See the terms and conditions for more details.

You can recommend as many friends as you'd like, but the amount you can earn through the Recommend a Friend scheme is a maximum of £500 per tax year (6 April to 5 April the following year). If you recommend more than five friends, they'll still receive £100 if they switch their current account to us.

As long as all the conditions of the offer are met, we’ll put £100 in your account when your friend has:

  • Completed the switch
  • Followed the unique link in our confirmation email and submitted their details (including their switch code)

Just so you know, it can take 30 days for the payment to be processed.

If your recommended friend closes their account without good reason within three months of when we send the payment, we reserve the right to claim back the payment from both of you within six months of the account closure.

We can only pay you once your friend’s application has been accepted.

Please check that your friend has completed an account switch to us. If they have, call us on 0800 30 20 11 quoting the reference number from the email we sent you. Please note that we can’t discuss the status of your friend’s application with you.
