Nationwide’s members help raise over £140,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support

At Nationwide Building Society’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held today at the Bournemouth International Centre the votes of over 700,000 Nationwide members helped to raise a total of £143,700 for Macmillan Cancer Support, the cancer support charity.

Results:
Ordinary Resolutions:

  1. To receive the Annual Report and Accounts
    For: 743,902 (99.09%) Against: 6,857 (0.91%) Votes withheld: 5,194
  2. To approve the Directors’ Remuneration Report
    For: 697,234 (93.66%) Against: 47,180 (6.34%) Votes withheld: 11,531
  3. To re-appoint PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP as Auditors
    For: 725,108 (97.06%) Against: 21,963 (2.94%) Votes withheld: 8,901

Special Resolutions:

  1. To approve the amendments to the Memorandum as stated in the Notice of AGM
    For: 724,578 (97.72%) Against: 16,892 (2.28%) Votes withheld: 14,480
  2. To approve the amendments to the Rules as stated in the Notice of AGM
    For: 726,261 (97.90%) Against: 15,570 (2.10%) Votes withheld: 14,136

Accordingly, all of the Directors standing for election/re-election were elected and re-elected.

Commenting on the vote, Geoffrey Howe, Nationwide’s chairman, said: “Through their votes at this year’s AGM, and in keeping with our continued focus on supporting the communities in which we work and live, members have helped raise a total of £143,700 for Macmillan Cancer Support. It is also pleasing to see that members have shown strong support for Nationwide and its directors.

“This is my last day as Chairman of Nationwide and I will leave the Society with a profound sense of pride at what we have achieved and the value we continue to deliver. I would like to thank our members for their support and assure them that the Society will continue to work hard to deliver its vision to be the first choice for financial services in the UK and to put their needs at the heart of everything we do.”

As announced in May 2015 Michael Jary has today stepped down as a Non-Executive Director of Nationwide's Board. David Roberts has been appointed as the new Chairman following the retirement of Geoffrey Howe at today’s AGM.
