Nationwide home emergency cover lowest price in the market

Nationwide reduces the cost of home emergency cover without compromising on cover

26 September 2014

From 1 October, Nationwide Building Society is reducing the cost of its home emergency cover by a third to just £20.14 per annum, the lowest in the market*.

The cover provides 24 hour assistance to Nationwide home insurance customers should they need to contact a tradesman in an emergency to make their home safe, secure and to prevent further damage.

Home emergency cover provides cover of up to £500, which can cover call out charges and labour as well as parts and materials, to deal with problems such as:

• Roof damage
• Plumbing and drainage problems
• Main heating system failure
• Domestic power supply failure
• Toilet unit damage or failure
• Damage to doors and windows
• Loss of keys
• Vermin infestation

Nationwide offers two different buildings and contents insurance policies:

• Home Insurance, which includes a higher level of cover as standard, such as personal possession cover both in and out of the home

• Home Insurance Essentials, which offers a comprehensive level of cover, with the option of adding on additional cover to suit the needs of the insured.

Martyn Dyson, Nationwide’s Head of General Insurance, said: “Nationwide home emergency cover has the lowest cost on the market, without making any compromises on the level of cover received.

“Some insurers charge nearly £100 for the same level of cover and while a handful of insurers include the cover as standard, the cost will be incorporated in the premium offered.

“Needing to call a tradesman out in an emergency can be an expensive business, even before they have added on parts and labour.

“The winter months aren’t far away, which can increase the risk of people coming home to find their home flooded from a burst frozen pipe or damage to their roof as the result of a storm.

“Having home emergency cover as part of your home insurance can provide policyholders with the help they need to get the problem sorted quickly.”

Nationwide’s home insurance customers will also now receive the same price quote regardless of if they apply online or in branch.
