Nationwide director appointed to workplace equality campaign

18 June 2012

Tony Prestedge, Chief Operating Officer at Nationwide Building Society, has been appointed to the Board of Opportunity Now, the gender equality in the workplace campaign from Business in the Community. As well as reflecting Prestedge’s Board level experience and personal interest in the issue, his appointment also recognises Nationwide’s support of the campaign.

Founded in 1991, Opportunity Now works with more than 200 of the UK’s most significant employers to accelerate change for women in the workplace. It works with its membership of employers, from private, public and education sectors, to offer tailored, practical and pragmatic advice on workplace issues and accelerating change for women in the workplace.

Tony Prestedge, Nationwide’s Chief Operating Officer for Group Transformation and Executive Sponsor for gender, said: “It is a privilege to be working with Opportunity Now on a campaign which works hard to provide advice, expertise and recognition for organisations looking to take a lead on workplace gender equality. Equality in the workplace is an essential ingredient to operating a productive and competitive organisation – something many businesses are struggling to achieve in the current climate.”

Helen Wells, Director of Opportunity Now said: “Tony’s experience in leading the gender diversity agenda makes him a welcome addition to the Opportunity Now Leadership Board. Board members are hand picked from organisations that are committed to promoting a diverse workforce. We look forward to working together with Tony to continue to drive this important agenda forward.”

At the end of last year Nationwide was awarded the highest possible accolade from Investors in People for its people, communication, training and development policies - recognising the importance Nationwide places on employee engagement and the role it plays in customer service.
