Nationwide Building Society has today announced that Rita Clifton will join its Board as a Non-Executive Director on 1 July 2012.
Rita Clifton holds a number of non-executive roles including at BUPA, Dixons Retail plc and Populus. She has been Chairman of Interbrand UK Ltd since 2002 and will step down from this role later in the summer. She is also a trustee of WWF-UK, and sits on the Assurance and Advisory Board for BP’s carbon off-setting programme. She has over 20 years’ senior management experience in a range of roles, with an expertise in demonstrating how brand is an integral part of long-term business strategy and in analysing and understanding consumer perceptions and behaviour. She has spent her career in advertising and market research and was previously Chief Executive at Interbrand UK Ltd.
During her career Ms Clifton has advised, at the most senior level, some of the UK’s best known organisations, including British Airways, Barclays, Citigroup, Visa and the British Army.

Following the AGM on 19 July 2012, Suzanna Taverne and Robert Walther will step down as Non-Executive Directors. Nationwide would like to thank them both for the significant contribution they have made. Robert Walther’s role as Chairman of the Remuneration Committee will be taken over by Lynne Peacock. Roger Perkin will become the Senior Independent Director.
