Nationwide Building Society ranks in the top ten employers for both gender and ethnic equality

12 November 2012

Opportunity Now and Race for Opportunity, the gender and race campaigns from Business in the Community (BITC), have published unranked lists of the Top 10 best performing private and public sector organisations for promoting diversity in ethnicity and gender. The lists are the culmination of the UK’s most comprehensive benchmarking survey into how organisations are performing on gender and race equality as well as diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

Nationwide is delighted to be included on both lists (one of only two financial services employers to do so). For organisations committed to diversity, equality and inclusion in the workplace, the benchmark is a clear signal of which organisations are delivering best practice. Particular highlights for Nationwide include;

  • recognition of our leadership commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • board level Diversity Champions
  • recruitment attraction strategy and our employee networks.

The survey comprised of two parts: a Diversity Impact Survey of workforce metrics and, a Diversity Inputs Survey where organisations needed to supply supporting documentary evidence and statements about their employment patterns.

Helen Hodgkinson, Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Nationwide Building Society said: “Nationwide is proud of its inclusive culture. We have taken steps to ensure that our diversity and inclusion policy is reflected throughout the organisation and are pleased to receive external recognition as a top ten employer in this extensive research. Diversity and inclusion at Nationwide is intrinsically linked to our culture and helps us serve the needs of our 15 million members. We will continue to listen to our employees and members to ensure we maintain and develop our commitment to ethnic and gender equality and benefit from the commercial advantages that this brings.”
