Shelter Shop Challenge, London
Volunteers unleash their entrepreneurial side for a great cause
The Shelter Shop Challenge saw our volunteers having to think 'outside the box' as they competed in an assignment that would not be out of place on The Apprentice. Working in teams in 8 Shelter shops across London, they were tasked with raising the profile of their shop within its local community, as well as mucking in with the general running of the shop. The goal? To beat the other teams by generating the biggest uplift in sales, and help Shelter support more people struggling with bad housing and homelessness.
Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness, through advice, support and legal services. The charity campaigns to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to them for help. Shelter is here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
As well as providing a 32% boost in sales, this project generated publicity for the Shelter shops within their local community – hopefully leading to new, repeat customers.
"I signed up to this challenge because I’m really competitive! I also thought it was a great opportunity to use my business skills in an environment that’s new to me."
