Every 11 minutes, someone in Britain loses their home

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness, through advice, support and legal services. The charity campaigns to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to them for help. Shelter is here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

How your support helps Shelter

A large part of Shelter’s annual income is made up through charitable giving, trusts and grants. Your donations mean that the charity can be there 365 days a year, offering advice and support for those that need it. Shelter also runs over 100 shops across the UK, which help raise awareness for the charity.

Nationwide and Shelter

One of the goals of our partnership with Shelter is to help 16,000 people into a home of their own between 2012 and 2016. This isn't just about buying a house: it can also be a safe and secure place that's rented privately or through affordable housing. That's how we define 'a home of your own'.

The support provided by Shelter is needed now more than ever

The UK is suffering a huge housing crisis and there simply aren't enough decent, affordable homes. This means a lot of people are trying to cope with poor housing or are without a home – last year alone, Shelter’s helpline answered 116,339 calls for support.

Dean's story

"When I spotted the opportunity to run the London Marathon and at the same time raise money for Shelter, I grabbed the chance. Knowing people who have needed support from organisations such as Shelter spurred me on, and I personally raised over £1,000 for Shelter."
