Nearly half of us will get cancer in our lifetime

Macmillan Cancer Support aims to reach and improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer, and to ensure no one faces cancer alone. When people have cancer, they don't just worry about what will happen to their bodies, they worry about what will happen to their lives. Macmillan knows how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything. From help with money worries and advice about work, to someone who'll listen, Macmillan is there – helping people take back control, so they can start to feel like themselves again.

More about Macmillan Cancer Support

How your support helps Macmillan

There are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK today and many of those affected are facing it alone. As the number of people diagnosed continues to rise, Macmillan needs your support more than ever to keep providing vital support services for people affected by cancer.

You’ve helped us raise money for Macmillan in so many different ways, including by voting in our AGM and supporting our branches that have hosted World’s Biggest Coffee Morning fundraisers.

"£27 could pay for an hour of care from a Macmillan nurse, enabling them to provide much-needed practical, medical and emotional support to patients and their loved ones too"

Nationwide and Macmillan

Nationwide is one of Macmillan's longest-standing partners. We've worked together since 1993, and have raised £7.1 million to help fund Macmillan's vital services.

Many of our employees, members, friends and families have been affected by cancer, so Macmillan is a charity that is regularly nominated as one we should continue to fundraise for and support.

How we're helping our members affected by cancer

One of the biggest worries for people with cancer is their finances. On average, 85% of cancer patients are hit with an additional cost of £570 a month because of their illness. But 95% don't contact their bank or building society for fear of not getting any help or, worse, that their diagnosis will have a negative impact on their financial situation.

That's why, together with Macmillan, we've launched a Specialist Support Service to give free, tailored and confidential support for Nationwide members affected by cancer.

Carly's story

"It was great to be involved in not only winning the record for the world’s biggest cream tea, but also helping to raise money at the same time for Macmillan."
