What would you do if someone stopped breathing?

Today, if you suffer a cardiac arrest out of hospital in the UK, you have less than a 1 in 10 chance of surviving. Let's change that.

We're helping the British Heart Foundation (BHF) share crucial first aid skills that could save lives.

A number of Nationwide employee volunteers have become fully-trained CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) champions and, in November and December 2015, they ran their first facilitated training sessions for their colleagues, members and the general public.

We fight for every heartbeat

In the UK more than 30,000 cardiac arrests happen out of hospital every year. Over the next 5 years the BHF, the UK’s leading heart charity, will create a Nation of Lifesavers – they're determined that more lives will be saved because bystanders are trained and ready to take action.

Impact

Our CPR champions ran 8 training sessions over 4 days, giving employees, members and the general public the skills and knowledge to help someone not breathing properly or whose heart has stopped. We'll be running more training sessions in the future – watch this space!

Paul's story

"I’d urge as many people as possible to take the time to undergo the training. Hopefully it's a skill that we'll never need to use. But if we do, it could make all the difference in the world to the person involved and their loved ones."
